Interestingly, Karthik’s golden duck also puts him on level with Kolkata Knight Riders’ Mandeep Singh for the unwanted record of most ducks in the Indian Premier League.

The duo currently have 15 ducks each to their name in IPL.

Golden and diamond ducks

DC’s Mitchell Marsh registered his golden duck after getting dismissed for nought off the fourth ball against RCB. Prithvi Shaw also register his second duck this season in the same series. So far, IPL 2023 has seen over 35 ducks with least 15 of them being golden ducks while one is a diamond duck.

A golden duck refers to when a batter is out of the very first delivery he faces. Meanwhile, a diamond duck refers to when a batter gets dismissed without facing any legal delivery.

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson and Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav, both registered at least 4 golden ducks this season as well. The number includes three for Team India, in just across two months.

Aside from the other players, SRH’s Umran Malik is the only player who has registered a diamond duck so far. Delhi Capitals who are currently struggling in the IPL, unsurprisingly also have the most ducks so far. Six of their players have registered ducks, followed by Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders with 5 ducks each.
