Unsurprisingly, athletes often create burner accounts on social media sites to keep away from the judgeful eye of some fans and the press.
F1 fans discover Lewis Hamilton’s burner account
Lewis Hamilton, who has over 34 million followers on his Instagram account, follows only three other accounts. One of these accounts belongs to his dog, Roscoe, while the other two accounts belong to Mission 44 and Plus 44 World. As such, fans took notice when he started following a seemingly unknown random account.
The “random” account, turned out to be his burner account, which was set to private and follows only one person with just one post. Moreover, the account doesn’t have a user name, but only a vague Instagram ID with an interesting bio that reads:
LH burning account”
Since the account is set to private, fans do not know the contents of the account.
F1 drivers who have burner accounts on social media
Just like Hamilton, there are several other F1 drivers who have their own burner accounts across social media. Mercedes driver George Russell also has a burner account, which his fans found out after his girlfriend Carmen Mundt started following it.
McLaren rookie driver Oscar Piastri, also has a burner account which he follows with his main account. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc also has a burner account on social media. Notably, fans found the drivers’ private accounts after going through their following lists and mutual followers. However, all of these burner accounts are private, as such, fans do not know the contents of the accounts.
