William Haggas, a horseracing trainer and his son-in-law, verified his death. While talking with UK media, he said,
“Sadly, we can confirm that Lester died peacefully in Switzerland this morning. I really don’t wish to add much more than that at this stage, although Maureen will be making a statement later.”

Who Was Lester Piggott?
Lester Keith Piggott was a prominent jockey and trainer from England. He was born in Wantage, Berkshire, on November 5, 1935. He comes from a long line of jockeys and trainers dating back to the 18th century. He comes from a family of jockeys and trainers that dates back to the 18th century.
He was also nicknamed “The Long Fellow,” because of his exceptionally long stature for a flat jockey. He stands 1.73 m (5 ft 8 in) tall and weighs 8 st 5 lb (117 lb; 53 kg).
In 1960, he married Susan Armstrong in London’s St. Mark’s church on North Audley Street. They both are the parents of two children that are ex-racehorse Maureen (William Haggas’ wife) and sports presenter Tracy. Apart from this, he also had a son named Jamie from a relationship with Anna Ludlow. They both are, however, unfortunately, got separated in 1960.
His Career
He won his first race when he was 12 years old in 1948, and he goes on to ride 4,493 winning horses in British competitions.
He is widely considered the greatest flat jockey of all time, having pioneered a new form of racing and is supposed to have kept his weight down to 8 stone and 6 pounds by surviving on cigars and champagne.
He eventually retired in 1995, at the age of 58, and ended his illustrious career with a victory at Haydock Park, where he had won for the first time in 1948. Piggott was honoured with a place in the British Champions Series Hall of Fame in 2021 for his contributions to the sport.
Death Cause Of Lester Piggott
Although he was hospitalized in critical care in 2007 for cardiac difficulties, the jockey’s cause of death remains unknown at this time but is said to be down to health related issues and due to his age.
