Laureus World Sports Awards 2023 full nominations list, ceremony, date, time and venue

The 2023 Laureus World Sports Awards nominations are officially announced, have a look at the list along with the date and time

On April 25, the complete list of winners and nominees for the Laureus World Sports Awards in 2023 has been made public.

Several of the sport’s icons will be present at the yearly awards presentation on May 8 in Paris.

Among the group’s top leaders are Paralympic medallist Tanni Grey-Thompson, Edwin Moses, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Nawal El Moutawakel, Chris Hoy, and Olympic gold winner Sebastian Coe.

Both Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who has won two individual sprint Olympic gold medals and six individual world titles, and Brazilian skateboard prodigy Rayssa Leal, who won an Olympic silver medal in Tokyo at the age of 14, will be present.

Several notable people, including football giants like Carlos Puyol, Luis Figo, and Fabio Capello who are all Laureus Academy members, will attend the award ceremony.

Slum Soccer, the lone representative from India, was chosen for the Laureus Sport for Good shortlist.

The Laureus Awards 2023 ceremony which is to be hosted by Hugh Grant will be broadcasted live on April 9 on Peacock in the US.

Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award

Steph Curry (USA): Basketball player, led the Golden State Warriors to their fourth NBA championship in eight years.

Mondo Duplantis (Sweden):  Achieved three world records and two world championships in athletics in 2022.

Kylian Mbappé (France): Footballer who topped Ligue 1 in goals and assists and won the Golden Boot at the World Cup.

Lionel Messi (Argentina): Footballer, World Cup captain; Golden Ball winner for best player.

Rafael Nadal (Spain): Tennis player, set a record in 2022 by winning two Grand Slam tournaments.

Max Verstappen (Netherlands):  Defended his Formula One World Championship in 2022.

At the World Championships in athletics, Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce earned a record-tying fifth 100-meter championship.

Swimming’s Katie Ledecky (USA); Four gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships set a new record.

United States athlete Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone broke the 400-meter hurdles world record.

Alexia Putellas (Spain) guided Barcelona to a flawless league championship and won a second Ballon d’Or in football.

Mikaela Shiffrin of the USA won the World Cup’s overall title in Alpine skiing.

Iga Swiatek (Poland) became the top tennis player after winning in France and the United States.

Argentina Men’s Football Team, the defending World Cup champions, following a thrilling game against France.

The England Women’s Football Team won the European Championships in front of boisterous crowds at home.

The French Men’s Rugby Team completed the Grand Slam, breaking a 12-year title drought.

The Golden State Warriors (USA) have won the NBA championship in basketball for the fourth time in the last eight years.

The Austrian Red Bull Formula One Team overcame Mercedes to claim the constructors’ championship after eight years.

Real Madrid, a Spanish powerhouse, triumphs in both La Liga and the Champions League.

Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam match in New York, propelling him to the #1 spot.

Tobi Amusan (Nigeria) is the world champion in the 100-meter hurdles and the holder of a new record.

In addition to winning the gold medal in figure skating at the Olympics, Nathan Chen (USA) also broke the world record in the short programme.

Declan Farmer (USA), a para ice hockey player, took home nation’s third gold medal at the Paralympics and topped the field in goals.

Cameron Leslie (New Zealand) won gold in wheelchair rugby and swimming after a two-year absence.

At the Winter Paralympics, Oksana Masters (USA) won two gold medals in biathlon.

Norwegian skier Jesper Saltvik Pedersen won four gold medals at China’s Alpine slopes.
