The devastating letter Riley Blanks Reed released on ESPN on Tuesday morning revealed that her father committed suicide last week. Riley Blanks Reed is the daughter of former NBA player and businessman Lance Blanks. He was 56.

As Riley put it, her father was “my person, my idol, my teacher, my best friend and my confidant.” She described him as “a leader and a guardian angel” who stood by her side no matter what and helped her through her toughest moments.

She also stated that she does not need to know the reason why her father committed suicide. All that is required of us, she wrote, is to “remember him, honour him, celebrate him, and pour our love into the family that made him happy.”

She claimed that although her father’s absence cannot be fully compensated, she finds solace in the pledge to uphold him with everything he left behind. “I will keep in mind that we are forever connected to the magnificent man who was our universe while being held tenderly by my sister, Bryn.”

According to TDPel Media, Blanks net worth is estimated at $2 million with his ex-wife Renee.

Blanks bio and career

Sid Blanks, a former NFL and AFL player, gave birth to Lance Blanks in Del Rio, Texas. In 1985, he was voted as Texas Mr Basketball and a third-team Parade All-American as a student at McCullough High School in The Woodlands, Texas.

The Detroit Pistons selected Blanks with the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 1990 NBA Draught. With the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves, he participated in three NBA seasons. He also spent three seasons playing in Europe, earning titles in Cyprus and Hungary, and one season playing in the CBA.

Additionally, Blanks served as a scout and front-office executive for a number of NBA clubs, most notably serving from 2010 to 2013 as general manager of the Phoenix Suns. Later, he joined ESPN as a Longhorn Network commentator.
