La Liga Salary Cap Rules: Salary Limited Raised For Real Madrid, Barcelona And Other Clubs

La Liga has made updates to its salary cap rules, following the closure of the market and the delayed return of fans to the stadiums as of 2021

Spanish clubs are aware of the the new maximum amount they can spend on their squads during this season.  While the Primera teams had a ceiling of 2,333 million euros at the beginning of the season, the number has now become 2,224 after readjustments. As for the highest-paying club, Real Madrid holds the position with a maximum of 473.34 million euros. Read on to know more about the 2021 La Liga salary limit.

La Liga Salary Cap And Rules Updates 

President Javier Tebas has readjusted the salary caps following the closure of the transfer market. Teams have kept their belts tightened during these months since their incomes have been reduced due to the pandemic. The clubs had been planning to bring fans back into the stadiums from January, but it didn’t work out.

Had it happened, a part of their debt and financial commitments would have been alleviated. However, La Liga has updated the salary spending figure for all clubs.

Real Madrid has passed the 468.53 million mark and established itself at to 473 million. Barcelona, which has faced many financial problems and the loss of its first position in this ranking, has a maximum spending of 347million. the First Division leader Atlético de Madrid, on the other hand, has a cap of 217 million.

Tebas was nevertheless, optimistic about the end of the pandemic and the consequent economic recovery: “Despite the 2,000 million less income, the clubs and especially the big ones have been able to withstand the crisis knowing how to reduce expenses. Spanish football is solvent. It has been able to access 700 million in financing in both categories,” said the President of La Liga. He also thanked the clubs for their efforts and hinted that the salary cap for next year may possible be even higher.

Calculating the Salary Cap

The Sports Template Cost Limit refers to the maximum amount each club can spend on salaries earmarked for players, coach, assistant coach and physical trainer (registrable template), as well as in the subsidiary, quarry and other sections of the club (non-registrable template).

It is calculated from the difference between income of structural expenses and the repayment of the debt expected throughout the season. Each team elaborates its salary limit. All the while complying with LaLiga’s Economic Control rules which the Validation Body must approve.
