Jon Gruden has resigned as the Las Vegas Raiders coach after reports of him using homophobic, racist and misogynistic language in his emails, know about his contract
The first leaked email is from 10 years ago in which Jon Gruden referred to NFLPA head DeMaurice Smith using a racial stereotype.
Jon Gruden Emails Controversy
Gruden apologized for his remarks on Friday. Based on a report in the Wall Street Journal, the email was sent by Gruden during the 2011 NFL lockout to Bruce Allen, who was the GM of the Washington Redskins at that time.
The email read, “Dumborris Smith has the lips of the size of michellin (sic) tires.”
The NFL was swift to denounce Gruden’s racist remarks by stating that his words were appalling, abhorrent and contrary to the values held by the NFL. They condemned the Raider’s head coach’s words and regretted any kind of harm inflicted on Mr. Demaurice Smith.

Not just racist remarks, more emails are doing the rounds which show Gruden insulting and mocking the drafting of the first openly gay player in NFL history, opposing the appointment of women officials in the NFL, disgustingly using the female anatomy as an insult and calling for the release of players protesting during the National anthem.
There were also some emails of Gruden having anti-transgender conversations involving Caitlyn Jenner who he mocked along with another anti-gay joke about Tampa Bay Buccaneers co-owner Bryan Glazer.
Jon Gruden contract: what happens after his resignation?
Gruden had signed a 10-year contract worth $100 million in 2018 when the Raiders appointed him as head coach. His contract is the richest coaching contract in NFL history in terms of the total contract value.
Gruden’s deal also included in it a no-trade clause. He had been traded from the Raiders to the Buccaneers at the end of his first stint with the Raiders in 2001.
Now that he is resigning, the remaining balance of Gruden’s deal will be voided completely, as reported by Tashan Reed of The Athletic.
The 58-year old coach was in the fourth year of his contract and would have had 6 years and $60 million pending on his contract post the 2021 NFL season.

Gruden served as assistant for 12 seasons in college and the National Football League before being appointed as head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1998. Having held that position till 2001, Gruden was then traded to Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002 to 2008 eventually helping the Buccaneers win their first Super Bowl title.
