Know How Real Madrid Can Seal Transfer Of Kylian Mbappe For Free In January After He Rejects A New Contract From PSG

Kylian Mbappe was unable to seal a transfer to Real Madrid last month but he’s set to move to the La Liga side for free after spurning a contract from PSG

Reports from Paris confirmed that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were unable to come to a deal for Kylian Mbappé. As the transfer window closed at midnight in Spain and France, talks remained deadlocked between the two clubs. Madrid offered €200 million for the French forward, but PSG never replied.

PSG Fail To Persuade Kylian Mbappe To Sign New Contract After Rejecting €200M From Real Madrid

Los Blancos had initially made a €160 million offer for Mbappé last week which had been immediately turned down. The Spanish club then followed it up with a bid worth €170m up front plus €10m add-ons. PSG did not respond to that offer either. Moreover, sources had already told ESPN before that it would take a bid of €200m at least to make them even seriously consider a transfer, considering their immense budget.

The youngest French player to score at a World Cup, Mbappé has been Real Madrid’s object of pursuit for quite a while, being the club’s top transfer target for multiple seasons. It had been managing spending carefully with almost a negligible sum of transfer fees spent on first-team players since 2019. Moreover, with the departures of Raphael Varane and Martin Odegaard this summer, Madrid was all set to bid on Mbappé.

The club pushed hard for his signing even when he left former club Monaco, but to no avail. As a part of Monaco, Donatello had won Ligue 1 and reached the Champions League semifinals in 2016-17 before PSG became his next club with a €180m deal – still a world record fee for a teenager.

Will Real Madrid sign Mbappé as a free agent in 2022?

Mbappé’s PSG contract will expire in June 2022. He will either have to sign a new contract or extend the existing one, which he has already told Paris, he is not keen on doing. But the fact that PSG did not let him go at a hefty €200m bid shows that they are still hoping to make Mbappé sign an extension.

PSG who are more than willing to offer Mbappe more than what Lionel Messi and Neymar earn in a 45 million pound per year deal have talked about how Mbappe promised the club he wouldn’t leave for free. Its looking unlikely though with Mbappe spurning a fresh offer from the side.

However, theoretically, Mbappé will have the liberty to sign a contract with Real Madrid on 1st January, 2022, which being the middle of the season, will not be the best time to do so. On the other hand, PSG will not back down from putting all the pressure on him to extend his contract with them. Paris will definitely send more messages in the upcoming months and it’s yet to be seen how Mbappé and Real Madrid deal with them and come through.
