Virgil van Dijk was irked with Erling Haaland with him believing the Norwegian striker to have broken his finger 

When Norway and Netherlands locked heads in their FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier, the matchup between Erling Haaland and Virgil van Dijk was a much anticipated one. Two of the finest players in their positions in the fraternity, the showdown between the two was bound to determine how the encounter shaped up.

And the two were seen involved in a string of physical battles, ones Haaland often got the better of. He had Virgil’s number on the night with his searing speed and awareness being too much for Virgil to cope with.

Haaland eventually went onto give Norway the lead in the first half as he scored in the 20th minute after smoking Virgil. Netherlands did manage to restore parity though in the half itself with Davy Klaassen scoring for the visitors.

However, come the second half and Netherlands suffered an injury scare as Virgil and Haaland jostled for the ball, an incident which ended up dislocating the defender’s finger. While he was fortuitous that the finger wasn’t broken with the medical team soon putting it back into its place, Virgil was left fuming at the Norwegian starlet.

Haaland has now gone onto reveal what was said to him by Virgil in the aftermath of the incident with him dwelling into the abuses hurled his way by the centreback.

“I actually snapped his finger on him.

“I do not know how it happened. He just said ‘f***ing hell, you broke my finger’.

“He’s good, so to speak. I have no idea how I snapped his finger. That’s just the way it is,” Haaland said.
