Ruturaj Gaikwad Biography: Early Life Story, Family, Girlfriend
Ruturaj Gaikwad was born on January 31, 1997, to Dashrath Gaikwad, and Savita Gaikwad in Pune, Maharashtra. Gaikwad’s father is a Defense Research Development Officer, while his mother is a school teacher. Filling in a joint family, Ruturaj Gaikwad grew up with numerous cousins, and he was the first one to get into sports.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was said to be dating Marathi actress Sayali Sanjeev but the rumours soon died down with him in a relationship with girlfriend Utkarsha.
Ruturaj had a keen interest in cricket right from the age of 5. Ruturaj went to watch his first live cricket match between New Zealand and Australia in Pune’s Nehru Stadium in 2003. Watching Brendon McCullum scoop the Aussie bowlers attracted him to the game.

Ruturaj joined the Vengsarkar Cricket Academy in Pune when he was 11 years old. He started playing in the U-14 and U-16 categories for Maharashtra.
Cooch Behar Trophy
Ruturaj Gaikwad grabbed the attention during his U-19 days, completing the second-most run-scorer in the 2014-15 Cooch Behar Trophy. He scored 826 runs in 6 games with three centuries, and a fifty.
In that very season, he scored a 522 run partnership in the 2015 Maharashtra Invitation Tournament, scoring a triple century in the game. His consistency helped him earn a spot in the India U-19 trials for the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup. Unfortunately, he did not get selected for the U19 World Cup in 2016 for India.
Regardless, Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a staggering performance in Domestic Cricket for Maharashtra. Gaikwad scored 875 runs in just 7 matches which included 4 centuries and 3 fifties in the Cooch Behar Trophy season.
Domestic Cricket For Maharashtra
Ruturaj made his domestic debut for Maharashtra during the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 season, at 19 years old. His Ranji debut ended as he got injured in a match against Jharkhand. He needed to go through a medical procedure, thus ending his debut season for Maharashtra.
Ruturaj returned to the Vijay Hazare Trophy but played only one match. In the next season, Ruturaj shone as an ODI opening batsman. The right-handed batsman scored 132 off 110 balls against Himachal Pradesh, his first List A century. He was Maharashtra’s best batsman in the competition with 444 runs in his initial 7 matches. Ruturaj scored 342 runs in 10 matches for Maharashtra the next season.
The 2018-19 homegrown season was the defining moment for Ruturaj, as his displays in both Ranji and Vijay Hazare Trophy opened the entryways of India A for him. Ruturaj scored 456 runs in 11 Ranji Games and 365 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was named in the India B squad for the Deodhar Trophy. Ruturaj scored 60 runs in the finals against India C.
India A
Ruturaj scored a hundred against England Lions in January 2019 for the Board President’s XI. This inning assisted him with getting in India A for the first time in June 2019 for the ODI series against Sri Lanka A. Ruturaj scored 187* off only 136 balls in the debut match and followed it with 125* in the following game. He scored 470 runs in four innings in the bilateral series.
At first, Ruturaj was not selected for the India A Tour of West Indies. But he was called for as Prithvi Shaw was ruled out due to injury. This was his first tour for India A. He went on to score 207 runs in four innings. Gaikwad scored two fifties and missed a century by one run.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has kept on sparkling with India A. He visited New Zealand with India A, scoring 93, 17, and 44 out of three innings back in June.
IPL
Due to successful domestic stats, the Chennai Super Kings purchased Ruturaj Gaikwad for 20 lakhs INR for the IPL 2019 season. Ruturaj did not play a single match for the CSK in 2019. But they retained him for IPL 2020. The CSK bought him in 2021 for 40 lakhs INR.
