Who Is Indian Women’s Hockey Coach Sjoerd Marijne, His Career, Life, Achievements And Awards
Born on 20th April, 1974, in Netherlands, Sjoerd Marijne is the head field hockey coach of the Indian women’s national team. He coached the team at the 2018 Women’s Hockey World Cup and played ten years for one of Netherlands’ leading clubs, Den Bosch in the Hoofdklasse, as a former field hockey player. With the club, Marijne was national champion twice (in 1998 and 2001) and also the winner of the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup in 1999.
Before coming to India, the Dutchman had a successful tenure with the women’s team of Netherlands, guiding them to a gold at the Hockey World League Semi-Final in 2015, Antwerp. Netherlands also bagged the bronze medal in the 2014 Champions Trophy and the silver medal in the 2015 EuroHockey Nations Championship. Following these wins, Marijne left due to “a difference in understanding” with the Dutch hockey association.
From 2011 to 2014, Marijne coached the Dutch junior hockey team and guided them to a third-place finish at the 2013 Junior World Cup. Some of his other stints include TMHC Tilburg in 2001 and Amsterdam H & BC in 2004 where he took the team to the national championship final twice. However, he has had no experience coaching a senior men’s national team.

He wrote, “Sorry family, I coming again later” and received a hilarious response from King Khan who wrote: “Haan haan no problem. Just bring some gold on our way back… for a billion family members,” signing off as ex-coach Kabir Khan.
