Formula 1: Know about the horrific crash of Brazilian F1 driver Ayrton Senna and the cause of his death
Ayrton Senna joined Williams in 1994 after the retirement of Alain Prost. Meanwhile, new laws were incorporated in F1 which meant that active suspension, traction control, and ABS were banned. However, Senna pointed out the fact that driving at these speeds would result in fatal crashes and the drivers need to be prepared.
Senna started the season poorly not being able to finish the first two races and failing to score a point. On the other hand, Michael Schumacher took a 20 point lead over Senna and was leading the Championship. It was the turn of the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola where everything suddenly went bad for Senna. On the Friday afternoon qualifying session, Rubens Barrichello endured a fatal crash injuring his nose and bruising his arms.
In addition, Roland Ratzenberger the Austrian rookie lost his life at the Villeneuve corner, crashing his car against the concrete wall. The signs were there and Senna identified the danger of the new Formula 1 car which was unstable at high speeds. He tried to improve the safety standards for the betterment of the drivers. Meanwhile, he even communicated his concerns regarding the safety of the drivers to Alain Prost in the hope of forming a Grand Prix Driver’s Association.
Monaco Grand Prix
Regardless of the horrific crashes the day before, Monaco Grand Prix was resumed and Senna lead the race from Schumacher. However, the race was disrupted because of a crash between JJ Lehto and Pedro Lamy which resulted in debris all over the main grandstand. The race resumed at Lap 6 and Senna posted the fastest lap ahead of Schumacher.
But, at lap 7, his Williams was off the racing line rounding up the fast corner Tamburello and crashed into the concrete wall at 240 km/h. His right wheels and right suspension broke and struck him in the face causing gruesome injuries to the skull.
His temporal artery was ruptured and lost almost 90% of blood from his body. He died on the track where he was being treated by the side of his car and everybody knew that the crash was fatal.
More than 3 million people came on the streets of Brazil where he was buried and millions around the world mourned. The Brazilian government announced a 3 day holiday in the respect of their most famous athlete.
