The highly anticipated 6th edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2024 has finally launched in Chennai, along with the release of the event’s official logo, jersey, mascot name, theme song, and more
The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, alongside Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, unveiled the event’s official jersey and mascot.

Notably, the event’s mascot is the Veera Mangai Velu Nachiyar, and the launch also featured the release of the game’s official theme song.

6th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2024 officially launched
During the launch of the mascot and jersey, Thakur shared that there was a sense of immense pride and privilege. He also added how the country has unbelievably brilliant sports talents and praised the continuous growth of sports in recent years. He described how the Khelo India programme is the vision of current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr. Thakur further shared how this edition of the Khelo India Youth Games will introduce squash and plans for a major collaboration with all the states in 2047.
The sports minister also asserted how India has won plenty of medals in international sports events and highlighted winning the Thomas Cup. Thakur took Sheetal Devi’s achievement in archery as an example to inspire sportspersons to push the limits and inspire future generations. He concluded by saying that region and religion do not matter in sports and that India will bid for the 2036 Olympics and currently stands among the ten top sporting nations.
Meanwhile, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, who launched the official logo, also spoke at the event and thanked PM Narendra Modi and Minister Anurag Singh Thakur for organizing the Khelo India Youth Games in Chennai. Stalin shared how the state has immense potential in sports and has taken part in international sports. Aside from them, five-time grandmaster and the Vice President of FIDE, the International Chess Federation, Viswanathan Anand also spoke. He shared how India has witnessed rapid growth in sports across international events.

Khelo India Youth Games 2024 dates and other event details
The Khelo India Youth Games will take place from January 19 to 31, 2024, across four cities: Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, and Coimbatore. The event will feature a total of over 6,000 athletes and players and over 1600 coaches. The competition will feature 27 types of sports with over 1000 referees and 1200 volunteers. This year, for the first time, the Khelo India games will include squash in the list of games. Interested volunteers can register themselves on the event’s exclusive website. Notably, the previous editions of the Youth Games took place in Delhi, Pune, Guwahati, Panchkula, and Bhopal.
KIYG 2024 official launch notable attendees
During the launch of the event, several notable attendees were present, including a list of renowned sports icons. Some of them include Chess Grand Master Vishwanathan Anand, Tokyo Olympian Fencer Bhavani Devi, Squash Champion Joshna Chinappa, and Hockey Asia Cup bronze medalist S. Mareeswaran. During the ceremony, squash champion Joshna Chinappa and hockey player S. Mareeswaran brought the torch of the Khelo India Youth Games to the Union Sports Minister.
