With five more days of competition left at the Khelo India University Games, Jain University, which currently leads with 15 gold, 8 silver, & 4 bronze medals, is closely followed by PUC, which has 12 gold, 7 silver, & 12 bronze. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (GNDU), which has 10 gold, 14 silver, and 5 bronze, is also in the contention with 10 gold, 14 silver, & 5 bronze medals.

On the opening day of the athletics activities, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University star Yoonus Shah won the Men’s 1500m race at the Guru Gobind Singh Sports College track in Lucknow, setting a new Games record in the process. His time of 3.51.61 minutes was significantly faster than the previous record of 3.52.54 minutes achieved in the inaugural edition of the University Games. At Gorakhpur’s Ramgarh Taal, Panjab University won up to 12 medals in rowing, including six gold ones. However at the conclusion of day seven at the 3rd Khelo India University Games, the reigning champion Jain University is still leading the medal tally with a total of 27 medals including 15 golds.
Siva Sridhar and Shrungi Bandekar, two of Jain University’s top swimmers, are responsible for 13 of the team’s 15 gold medals so far, propelling it to the top of the medal standings. Having won eight and five gold medals, respectively, the pair was named the best male and female swimmers of the Games. On Tuesday, men’s hockey semi-final matches will be played with SambalPur University set to clash against Guru Nanak Dev University in the first semi-final.
