A look at the Khelo India University Games Medal Tally along with the 2023 swimming results
The Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023 were formally introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference.
The official opening ceremony for the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2022 was conducted in Lucknow, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh, on May 25.

The swimming competitions began at the SVSP Sports Complex today. Vikkas Prabhakar of SRM University, Tamil Nadu, emerged as the fastest male swimmer of the Games and Siva Sridhar of Jain University, Karnataka, became the first double gold medallist, Vikkas won the men’s 50m freestyle dash at Greater Noida’s Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik (SVSP) indoor stadium, with a timing of 23.47.
There was a dead-heat for silver as both Veer Khatkar of Maharshi Dayanand University and Shailesh Shwejal of Savitribai Phule Pune University and MS came in second with 24.02 secs. Earlier in the day, Aneesh Gowda of Christ University (deemed) bagged the first gold of the Games with a win in the men’s 400m freestyle. He also won a bronze later in the day, however, the pool clearly belonged to Siva Sridhar of Jain University on the day, as he nailed a couple of golds with wins in the men’s 200m medley and the men’s 100m backstroke.
More than 4750 athletes from more than 200 colleges around the country will compete in the third KIUG across 21 sports categories.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition, which was originally scheduled to take place in 2022, has been moved to 2023.
It is generally known that the prime minister has devoted a great deal of attention to the nation’s sports culture and encouraged the young of the country to participate in sports. The government has started a variety of initiatives to help young athletes, and improvements are being made to the country’s sports ecosystem.
The multi-discipline athletic competition, which is being co-hosted in UP and Delhi, will feature some of the best emerging athletes in the nation. A concluding ceremony for the contest will take place on June 3.
The Khelo India University Games will take place in Uttar Pradesh in 2023 in four different cities. All the events will take place in Gautam Buddha Nagar (NOIDA & GR. NOIDA), Lucknow, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. The shooting competitions take place at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi.
The group matches and preliminary rounds for seven other sportsโbasketball, football, rugby, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, and mallakhambโbegan on May 24, 2023, at three locations in Lucknow. The men’s and women’s group league games for the KIUG will be played on May 23, 2023, at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik (SVSP) Stadium in Greater Noida.
It is interesting to know that the first water sports competition for this KIUG will be the rowing competition at Ramgarh Tal in Gorakhpur.
The reindeer, the official animal of Uttar Pradesh, serves as the mascot of the current Khelo India University Games.
Panjab University won the KIUG’s first tournament, and Jain University of Karnataka took top place in the second. It will be challenging for other prominent universities to unseat Panjab University and Jain University from the top of the league.
Jain University jumped out in front on Day 1 (May 26) with 5 medals, including 3 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
