Kelis Rogers-Mora, also known as Kelis, is a famous American singer. She has recently been in the news after she alleged that Queen B aka Beyoncé used her song in a recently released seventh studio album “Renaissance.”
She was born on August 21, 1979, in New York City, U.S. Her parents are Eveliss, a Chinese-Puerto Rican fashion designer, and Kenneth, an African-American jazz musician and Pentecostal evangelist who was once a professor at Wesleyan University.
She attended Manhattan Country School, a private institution, for her early education. She entered the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts in New York at the age of 14, where she took lessons in the saxophone and gained membership in the Girls Choir of Harlem.
In January 2005, rapper Kelis wed Nas. However, they later got divorced. At the time, she was seven months along. Knight, Kelis’s first son, was born in July 2009.
She then wed photographer Mike Mora in 2014 and welcomed her second son, Shepherd, into the world in November 2015. She gave birth to a daughter called Galilee in September 2020. Kelis and Mora were together until he died in March 2022 after battling stage-4 stomach cancer.
