By defeating Nao Hibino of Japan with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, Swan of Great Britain advanced to her first career semifinal while Magda Linette, the third-seeded Polish woman booked her last-four spot in Chennai, after she defeated Rebecca Marino, the seventh-seeded Canadian, 7-6 (10), 6-3.

Magda Linette has advanced to her first Tour-level semifinal of the year and is the current favourite to win her first tournament since February 2020. This week, the Pole has yet to lose a set, and in rounds one and two, she prevailed by tossing in bagels in the second set.

Her competitor, the 23-year-old Katie Swan, is now having one of her best weeks. Swan is arguably in the greatest shape she has been in since 2018 and has won her last eight games. However, Linette is a far better athlete. Swan will certainly be put in awkward positions on the court by Linette’s aggressive use of her two-handed backhand.
