Kiwi Captain, Kane Williamson is likely to sit out of the second Test match against England at Edgbaston owing to a potential elbow injury from the first test.

New Zealand Coach Gary Stead recently stated his opinion upon Kane Williamson’s injury and mentioned that it is being monitored as of the moment. And the decision on his availability against England will be frame on Wednesday.

This could mean that Williamson will sit out the upcoming test, in order to be in full shape and steady health against India in the World Test Championship starting from June 18, 2021.

Kane Williamson Elbow Injury Sees Him In Doubt For WTC final 2021

Gary Stead announced on the same day that the fast bowlers who were a part of the first match against England will be rested in the test match at Birmingham, to ensure no one catches an injury before the final showdown against India.

Moreover, left arm spinner, Mitchell Santner has been ruled out due to a cut on the left finger. However, Trent Boult will be available for selection in the second Test and will likely feature in the playing XI in order to get a head start before the WTC final.

England vs New Zealand Second Test Match

In the first test match played at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium in London, both teams played a draw. After the play on the third day had to be abandoned due to rain.

Having said that, the away team posted a total of 378 runs with the help of a double century from debutant Devon Conway. Kiwi bowlers bowled out England for just 275 and gained a lead after the end of the first innings for both teams.

With rain interrupting the play, New Zealand declared their second innings on 169 runs, in order to bowl out England on the last day’s play. Yet England showed immense resistance and managed to lose only 3 wickets. Eventually ensuring a draw against the World Test Championship finalists.
