The IP to IPO Awards 2026 recognized individuals and institutions making meaningful contributions to innovation, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, research, technology commercialization and institution building.

Speaking on the occasion, Umesh Rathod, author of the book and founder of Lean Campus Startups, emphasized that India’s next phase of development must focus not merely on creating knowledge but on converting knowledge into intellectual property, IP into innovation, innovation into enterprises and enterprises into national wealth.

“India should not only be the world’s market; India must become a global source of innovation, intellectual property and enterprise.”

The event also highlighted the need for Indian universities and research institutions to evolve from being primarily centres of education and research into engines of innovation, IP creation, technology transfer and startup creation.

The central framework of the IP to IPO Movement was articulated as: Idea → IP → Innovation → Enterprise → Viksit Bharat 2047

The gathering also provided a platform for dialogue around academic entrepreneurship, institutional IPR policies, technology transfer, research commercialization, startup creation, industry-academia collaboration and innovation-led economic growth.

The book “IP to IPO” presents a framework for transforming India’s academic innovation ecosystem by addressing the gap between research output and commercial outcomes and encouraging institutions to measure their impact through patents, licensing, startups, technologies commercialised, revenue and societal impact.

The event concluded with a renewed call for stakeholders across academia, government, industry and the startup ecosystem to work together towards making India a global innovation and intellectual property powerhouse.

The message from the IP to IPO Movement is clear:
“Patent filing is not the destination. Commercialisation is.”
“Idea से IP, IP से Innovation, Innovation से Enterprise—and Enterprise से Viksit Bharat!”
