The Manga and comic industries have exploded in the last few years, especially in the United States. Viz Media’s Viz Manga and Kodansha’s K Manga are among the most talked about ones at present.

Viz Media launches Viz Manga platform

Viz Media is a major player in the Western Manga publishing industry for a number of years and this week, the launch of their brand-new platform known as Viz Manga has been declared.

Viz Manga will be costing the users a price fair of $1.99 per month and it will be including access to more than 10,000 chapters of manga; however, the standard price of $2.99 a month Viz Media subscription will be retained as a separate subscription.

It means, if one person will be subscribing to both services for a combined $4.98 a month, you will be having access to more than 25,000 chapters of the Manga.

The goal of the newly launched platform is helping out curb manga piracy, which is still an issue in the industry, to force competition with Crunchyroll’s popular manga reading service.

The CEO of Viz Media Ken Sasaki has briefly explained through a breakdown video how the new platform will be “meeting the needs of the broader manga community” following a big explosion in manga popularity for a decade.

“Subscribe Viz Manga and have access to several numbers of digital libraries to 10,000 chapters on your device. Also, grab many exciting offers with any series published simultaneously with Japan in English for the very first time. The latest simpulpub chapters are free.” He revealed.

Content which is currently available on Viz Manga includes Komi Can’t Communicate, Alice in Borderland, and Call of the Night among many more.

The reaction to Viz Media’s Viz Manga declaration has been overwhelmingly positive so far, with fans having access to more than 25,000 chapters for $5.

Viz Manga is presently available for downloading and can install via App Store and Google Play.

Viz Manga’s declaration was indeed welcomed but the news is directly coming on the heels of Kodansha’s K Manga platform, which will undoubtedly be a new competitor in the market.

But unluckily K Manga will only be available in the US for having a beginning and will be accessible through both, a mobile app and a website.

The available series on the K Manga are Edens Zero, Don’t Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro, Fire Force Blue Lock, Rent-A-Girlfriend, The Seven, and Deadly Sins.

Kodansha Ltd. launched its new manga distribution service “K MANGA” for Android on Wednesday and the app is also slated to launch for iOS on Wednesday, and is slated to launch for browsers “within days.”

The company confirmed that it launched the app with approximately 400 titles including 60 simulpub titles, with their chapters debuting on K MANGA before on other platforms and the first few chapters of most titles are available for free.

The company also revealed the service’s Ticket- and Point-based credit systems which will provide users with a free “Normal Ticket” once a day. Users can use Normal Tickets to read a single chapter of a single “K MANGA original series” per ticket and can get 3-4 “Premium Tickets” per day from login bonuses and special campaigns, and can utilize both Normal and Premium Tickets to read about 4-5 chapters of a title per day.

Users can alternately purchase points, with every 100 points costing US$1 and the service also gives users points for reading the service’s “featured” manga chapter of the day or for watching advertisements.
