Kounde’s injury comes at a bad time with just less than three weeks before the first Clasico of the season.
Joules Kounde injury update and potential return date
Just like Lewandowski during the Champions League win over Porto on Wednesday, Xavi had to force off Kounde towards the end of the first half during Sunday’s LaLiga clash against Granada. The French defender experienced a tough opening 45 minutes going up against Bryan Zaragoza, who scored two goals for Granada. He was visibly angry after failing to carry on following a knock. 24-year-old Ronald Araujo who is a regular starter alongside Kounde in central defence, came on as his replacement.
Following the incident, ‘Sport’ journalist, Toni Juanmartí, stated that the Barca medical team diagnosed Kounde as having suffered a “minor knee sprain”. This kind of injury usually results in a two to three weeks absence followed by further tests. As such, Kounde could potentially still make it in time for the upcoming El Clasico match later this month. He is set to undergo further tests when the team returns to Catalonia on Monday.
Barcelona vs Real Madrid El Clasico date
The first El Clasico of the season set to take place on Saturday 28 October, at the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys in Montjuïc. As such, the 24-year-old Jules Kounde faces a race against time to find his fitness. Aside from Jules Kounde, Lewandowski and de Jong are out on ankle injuries while Raphinha is out due to his hamstring. Moreover, Pedri who is suffering a thigh issue, hasn’t featured in any game since this season’s second LaLiga game.
