The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has put cricketers Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler under investigation after some of their allegedly racist tweets, mocking Indians, surfaced online.
Both the English cricketers feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Buttler bats for the Rajasthan Royals, while Morgan leads the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the old tweets which have now surfaced, both of them are found using the honorific ‘sir’ in a derogatory tone, mocking the way Indians speak English.
ECB Starts Investigations Into The Players
Both Jos Buttler And Eoin Morgan Are Currently Bein Investiaged by the England Cricket Board as per reports emanting from the country. The ECB had previously banned Ollie Robinson from all formats of international cricket after his racist tweets had surfaced ensuing the player’s debut against New Zealand at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Racist Tweets By Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler
While the cricketers had deleted the tweets when they came under scrutiny, screenshots have surfaced recently. Morgan congratulated Brendon McCullum and tweeted, “Sir you’re my favourite batsman.” The New Zealand cricketer responded back clearly mocking the way Indians speak English, “Sir, you play very good Opening batting.”
As for Buttler, he congratulated Alex Hales and Brett Hutton on their performance saying the the following. “Well done on double 100 much beauty batting you are on fire sir” and “I always reply sir no1 else like me like u.”

These tweets started to surface following the ECB’s suspension of pacer Ollie Robinson. He had made some offensive tweets back in 2012-13. According to a spokesperson, the ECB has started questioning a lot of individuals regarding a number of historical social media posts. The Board believes that there is no space for discrimination in sports and hence, will take relevant and appropriate action.

Many believe that the three cricket stars were making fun of Indians in the posts. It remains to be seen if the duo also will be penalized like Robinson. ECB may also take a different route.

The cricketer-turned-commentator Michael Vaughan took to his social media accounts to react to the latest developments. He opined that it was ‘ridiculous’ that people were questioning the English board for the remarks made by Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler.
