And in a bid to nail down his services for the impending time as well and stave away any bids which could potentially lure the player away from them, the 76ers have ended up agreeing to a supermax NBA contract with Embiid. As reported by Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Embiid has put pen to paper to a four year deal, one which will see him pocket a staggering $196 million and keep him with the club till the end of the 2026-27 season.
The deal assures Embiid of making $261 million with him set to pocket the $65 million he was bound to earn from his ongoing deal in the last two seasons.
Despite him being injury bone and spending a substantial time on the sidelines, Embiid has still managed to make his mettle known in the league. He finished the bygone season second only to Nikola Jokic in the Kia MVP voting as he ranked fourth in the NBA in scoring at a career-high 28.5 points per game along with a staggering apg and rpg as well.
The new provisions of Embiid’s deal do not include a clause to protect the 76ers from a career threatening injury to Embiid’s lower back or knee. His current deal seals him signed through the 2022-23 season.
