Dean Holland, a 34-year-old Australian jockey, lost his life due to injuries sustained during a race in regional Victoria on Monday, according to Racing Victoria.

He was one of two jockeys who were thrown from their horses during the opening race of a meeting at Donald Racecourse. Despite receiving medical attention, Holland passed away on the spot.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the incident happened when Holland’s horse, Headingley, strayed onto the inside rail as he approached the finish line. Thankfully, Alana Kelly, the second jockey involved in the collision, escaped with only minor wounds. Moreover, the horses survived the ordeal unscathed.

Andrew Jones, executive director of Racing Victoria, also released a statement on Monday, expressing his condolences over Holland’s untimely death. He said,
