In Los Angeles on Thursday, Jim Brown, NFL legendary player and a social activist, passed away.

The family of Brown said in a statement that Brown passed away peacefully at home in Los Angeles with his wife Monique by his side.

Georgia-born Brown twice won the league’s Most Valuable Player award in 1964 while leading the Cleveland Browns to the NFL title.

He was one of the first big-name players in the game when it achieved TV popularity.
