The tragic news of the politician’s demise was confirmed by State Media in a report. The outlet reported that the former Chinese Leader passed away at around 12:00 Local Time, in Shanghai on Wednesday, November 30.

The news of Jiang’s demise came after China saw the most serious protests since Tiananmen as many demonstrating protests against Covid-19 restrictions.
Cause of Jiang Zemin’s Death
As per the report by State TV and Xinhua News Agency, the politician who served as the General secretary of Chinese Communist Party from 1989 to 2002, passed away due to leukemia and multiple Organ Failure.
After learning the news of his demise, the Chinese Communist Party took to their official social media handle and penned a tribute for the former Mayor of the party.
The statement of the party reads Jiang “as an outstanding leader with high prestige” and “a long-tested Communist fighter,” before revealing the cause of death.
The state media outlets along with Global Times and Xinhua news agency, changed their website to black and white to pay tribute to the veteran leader.
Followed by it, the State broadcaster CCTV expressed Jiang’s role after the 1989 crackdown on protests in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
They stated, “During the serious political turmoil in China in the spring and summer of 1989, Comrade Jiang Zemin supported and implemented the correct decision of the Party Central Committee to oppose unrest, defend the socialist state power and safeguard the fundamental interests of the people.”
Who was Jiang Zemin?
For those who are unfamiliar with Jiang Zemin, let us tell you, he was initially a transitional leader, who drafted a mandate from then-leader Deng Xiaoping to pull together the communist party and the nation.
During his time as a General secretary of the Party, Jiang guided the nation to rise to top in the global economy by welcoming capitalists into their party and pulling foreign investments after China joined hands with the WTO.
Zemin oversaw the peaceful handover of Hong Kong and China’s entry into WTO in 2001.
To secure his position in the Party, the politician came up with his own ideology, which expressed the Three Represents theory, that was an attempt to modernise the communist party.
For those who are curious about Zemin’s background, let us tell you, Jiang was born in Yangzhou city, Jiangsu, on August 17, 1926.
His ancestral home was in the Jiangchuan Village in Jingde County, Anhui. Jiang’s foster father and his uncle died fighting with the Japanese in 1939. After the death of his father, he became the sole male heir.
Zemin has completed his studies in Engineering from the National Central University in Japanese-occupied Nanjing.
However, later, he transferred to National Chiao Tung University which is presently known as Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
During his college time, Jiang joined hands with the Chinese Communist Party.
China is currently mourning the tragic passing of the former President as thousands are paying their tributes to Zemin on social media. His net worth stood at $5 million.
