Red Bull team principal Christian Horner pointed out the “gamesmanship” by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton at the flying lap of the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying race
Mercedes can call it a perfect weekend if they are able to win the Hungarian Grand Prix after locking out the first row on the grid ahead of the race. Meanwhile, Red Bull had to satisfy themselves with Max Verstappen and Perez coming third and fourth.
Christian Horner said when asked about his thoughts, “Not really, it is a bit of gamesmanship. Lewis has got a hell of a lap in the bank and then obviously he is just backing things up because he doesn’t want to give our cars a clean run.”
Christian Horner makes his thoughts known about Lewis Hamilton and His Gamesmanship
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was asked about the flying lap of Lewis Hamilton after securing the provisional pole for tomorrow’s race. The Briton slowed down while exiting the pit lane clearing the space with Bottas who was ahead of him.
As a result, Sergio Perez was not able to complete his final lap as he was late at the time of the chequered flag. Horner was quick to pass his remarks on the English driver Lewis Hamilton labeling his flying lap as “gamesmanship”.
On the other hand, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff was happy with the performances of both the drivers and is eagerly waiting for the final race tomorrow. They are currently behind Red Bull in the Constructor’s League by 4 points hoping to reduce the deficit at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Wolff said, “We saw the average was somewhere between seven and eight seconds through all the qualifying sessions but the camera was pointed on there so maybe we didn’t see everybody else doing it. He was obviously more interested in what was going on behind but that is part of the game.”
It will be interesting to see what happens at the Hungaroring in one of the closest-ever Formula 1 seasons. Lewis Hamilton who took pole today has a colossal advantage as compared to Max Verstappen whose Red Bull came third on Saturday at the qualifying race.
