Snow leopards usually live in alpine and subalpine zones at elevations of 3,000–4,500 m. As such, they usually exist around eastern Afghanistan, the Himalayas, the Tibetan Plateau, southern Siberia, Mongolia, and western China.

Just recently, a photo of a young girl seated alongside a snow leopard in the backdrop of snow-capped mountains went viral across social media. According to the Facebook user who shared the post,

Gulmina, lives in Madan Tehsil of Shamshal area of Gilgit-Baltistan. She raised this snow leopard since it was a kitten, but now it is too big to live in her home. It lives in the mountains, but it still visits her and she still treats it like her pet.”

Despite all the fascination surrounding the photo, the investigators eventually proved that the photo was AI-generated. A reverse image search of the viral photo showed that an Instagram account with the handle @babrakk shared the same photo on March 24, 2024. @babrakk shared the photo with the caption:

Notably, in the comments section, an Instagram user asked:

How did you manage take this?”

Meanwhile, the account responded with:

With Midjourney.”

As such, the comment proved that the user generated the photo using AI. Notably, the account also shared the viral posts across his Instagram story, while also addressing the viral narrative circulating on social media. @babrakk clarified that he created the image through the AI tool Midjourney and Nvidia technology. Moreover, the account has also gone on to share several similar photos of children in the mountains alongside wild animals. Aside from this proof, there is no administrative division that goes by the name.
