Rubiales was born on 23rd August 1977 in the Canary Islands and represented numerous clubs including Alicante CF, Guadix CF, RCD Mallorca B, UE Lleida, Xerez CD, Levante UD throughout his playing career. Currently, Luis Rubiales is working as the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and is also one of the vice presidents of UEFA. Notably, Rubiales has played as a defender in the past and made his appearance in fifty-three La Liga matches. Additionally, he operated as a Spanish football official for some years. Rubiales has drawn criticism for kissing Spain’s Women’s National Team footballer Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Additionally, he received criticism for celebrating Spain’s historic victory at the final whistle by grasping his crotch. He reportedly entered the locker room after full time and made a pledge to marry Hermoso and take the women’s squad on a trip to Ibiza.
Rubiales stated he will not quit during a press conference after FIFA began a disciplinary investigation for the aforementioned incident. During this interview, Rubiales commented that the kiss was consented by Hermoso and it happened because of the euphoric circumstances. However, Hermoso flatly rejected the comments of Rubiales and urged him to resign from his position. On 26th August, FIFA announced that they will ban Rubiales from attending any football event for the next 90 days and further action might be taken if the allegations against Rubiales are proved true.
