The accusations around Lamine started after an old newspaper article, allegedly from 2015, showed Yamal was already 10 years old at the time, despite the claims that he was born in 2007. An X/Twitter user named La Liga Frauds posted:

Many have started believing the claims following a picture of the youngster donning Barca’s 15/16 season kit, which allegedly proves that the player is indeed older than 16. However, in reality, the picture is just an old photo from previous years unearthed in a digital archive.
The picture is dated as 2017 in records and not 2015, as claimed. These baseless accusations appear to be the work of a certain fanbase clad in white as they cannot fathom how Yamal could be this good at such a young age.
