Jaydev Unadkat’s Saurashtra side won their first-ever title in March 2020 which qualified them for Irani Cup. The game wasn’t able to come to any result till the end of Day 5 so the test match was decided by the first innings score. Saurashtra who batted first in the final game posted 425 runs on board in the first innings. In reply, Bengal only managed to score 381 runs in thier first innings. Therefore Saurashtra was declared the champions of Ranji Trophy 2019-20.

The Ranji Trophy champions Saurashtra were scheduled to play the Irani Cup game against the rest of the world a week later. Due to the covid 19 outbreak, BCCI had to postpone the event.
Saurashtra will face the Rest of India in Irani Cup on 1st October in Rajkot
The 2019-20 Ranji Trophy champions will be taking on the Hanuma Vihari-led Rest of India team. Jaydev Undakat and Cheteshwar Pujara are the experienced players in the Saurashtra lineup. The Saurashtra side would like to take the home advantage of the Rajkot wicket.

Young and talented players in the Indian domestic circuit are called up for the Rest of India team. Safraz Khan who was the man of the tournament in the recently held Ranji Trophy 2022 will also take part in the Irani Cup. It will be a tough game for the Gujrati team against one of the best in the country.

The Saurashtra Cricket board credits Jay Shah for arranging the Irani Cup game which was postponed due to covid 19. Saurashtra president said” Saurashtra Cricket Association sincerely thank Shri Jaybhai Shah, Hon. Secretary, BCCI, and all at BCCI for kindly considering Saurashtra Cricket Association’s request to host and play prestigious Irani Cup 2022.”
The current Ranji Trophy winners Madhya Pradesh will also play the Irani Cup this year only.
