Meanwhile, Impact Player, toss adjustments, and updated wides and no-ball regulations are just a few of the significant rule changes that IPL 2024 brings to the action-packed competition. The Impact Player regulation that was implemented the previous year will remain in force.

The Impact Player rule

The ‘Impact Player’ regulation provides more tactical flexibility than other systems that have been employed in the past in India and overseas

A single replacement player who can bat and bowl was introduced for the first time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. However, the league has since mandated that the Impact Player must be an Indian unless a team’s starting XI has less than four foreign players.

A team may field up to four foreign players each match in the Indian Premier League (IPL). If four foreign players are nominated in the starting XI, an Indian player must be selected as a replacement.

As agreed upon before to the toss, the impact substitute for the IPL must come from a list of four players. Before the commencement of an innings, at the conclusion of an over, upon the fall of a wicket, or upon a batter’s retirement, substitutions may be made.

The player who has been substituted out cannot participate in the game again, not even on the pitch. Any player from the starting XI may be substituted at any time before the 14th over of either innings concludes. The substitute may bat and bowl his entire allotted number of overs.
