Meanwhile, several matches last year were halted due to rain including the final. Rain prompted the final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings to be postponed to a reserve day.

Because the IPL is held during Indian summer, rain does not threaten the event in the same way that it does for cricket in other regions of the world. One cannot fight against natural phenomenon however, we can prepare ourselves to escape the circumstances following dome rules.

As per the IPL regulations, play would not be allowed to occur if the umpires collectively determine that it would be unsafe or inappropriate due to weather, unusual circumstances, or ground conditions.

What is the minimum number of overs required to get a result in an IPL match?

A result in a match disrupted by rain requires the team batting second to play at least five overs. This allotment has to be fulfilled within an extra sixty minutes following the game’s scheduled conclusion in the group stage.

A match affected by rain has an additional 120 minutes to be completed once the competition advances to the playoffs. DLS is used when a team batting second’s innings are cut so short that they are unable to last the same number of overs as the team batting first.

DLS determines a revised objective for the team batting second by weighing the resources available to each side. Rather than only modifying the objective based on the number of overs lost, DLS takes into account both the number of wickets a team currently holds and the number of overs left.

What happens when it’s a “no result” finish?

The game will be declared a “no result” if the team batting second is unable to complete five overs following the extra hour. This means that each side in the game will receive one point during the group stage.
