While no formal confirmations have been made, at least two new COVID-19 cases have been discovered in the Delhi Capitals’ team after team physio Patrick Farhat tested positive for the virus. One of them, according to reports, is an international player, an Australian all-rounder. The name hasn’t been verified yet. IPL 2022 Rules:

  • According to IPL standards, anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 in the bubble must isolate himself for at least 7 days. To re-enter the bubble, the individual must have two consecutive negative RT-PCR tests taken 24 hours apart.
  • If an IPL team has several COVID-19 positive instances. The club must field at least 12 players, including seven Indians and one replacement.
  • If the team is unable to field a full complement of 12 players, the IPL will make the ultimate decision.

IPL 2022: Why This Is Concerning?

However, The announcement of COVID-19 positive cases in the Delhi Capitals franchise is troubling for both the teams and the IPL, given the tournament was forced to be abandoned midway through last year owing to an increase of COVID-19 positive cases within the bio-secure IPL bubble. Last year, at least five teams had positive players, causing the IPL to put the tournament on hold indefinitely. The IPL 2021 season’s second half began in September.
