India’s Boxer Amit Panghal Qualifies For The Tokyo Olympics With Number One International Ranking

Amit Panghal would be participating in the Tokyo Olympics as the number one ranking boxer in the 52kg men’s flyweight category

Panghal is an amateur Indian boxer. During the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championship, he had won a silver medal for the flyweight category. And during the 2018 Asian Games, he had won a gold medal.

He made his debut in the 2017 National Boxing Championship and had also won a gold medal. In the 2017, Asian Amateur Boxing Championship, which was held in Tashkent, he had won the bronze medal for the light flyweight category. And this also helped him to qualify for the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championship, in which he lost to Uzbekistan’s Hasanboy Dusmatov in the quarterfinal match. He had also won a gold medal in the 2018 Standzha Cup, which was held in Sofia.

Amit Panghal Top Ranking released by Boxing Task Force Ahead Of The Tokyo Olympics 2021

The International Olympic Committee’s Boxing Task Force has released the rankings in which Amit Panghal has topped the list. He has become the first Indian Olympic boxer to  be the No.1 ranker. During the ASBC Asian Boxing Chamoionship, he had beaten the defending Olympic champion Zoirov Shakhobidin in the men’s 52kg category, but he had won the silver medal.

The rankings of other men boxers are- Manish Kaushik’s ranks 18th for the 63kg weight category, whereas, Ashish and Satish Kumar are at 9th rank for the 75 and 91kg categories respectively.

Women’s Boxing Rankings

According to the ranking released by the Boxing Task Force for the female boxers, Mary Kom, who has been the six time World Champion, ranks in the seventh position for the women’s 51kg category. And Simranjeet Kaur ranks at fourth position in the 60kg category.

Other women boxers such as Lovlina Borgohain ranks in the fifth position for the 69kg category and Pooja Rani ranks in the eighth position for the 75kg category.

The Tokyo Olympics, which got postponed last year due to COVID-19 will be held between July 23 to August 8 in this year.
