Iga almost won the Dubai Tennis Championships, this season’s first WTA 1000 tournament, but lost out to Barbora Krejcikova. Sofia Kenin, the former Australian Open champion is also among the wildcard recipients.
BNP Paribas Open 2023 women’s draw
The BNP Paribas Open 2023 women’s draw began as an ATP-only event, before eventually joining the WTA tour in 1989. Initially, the women competed a week before the men. This eventually changed in 1996 and became a joint event.
The tournament received a fantastic response from its inception despite starting off as a lower-tier event. The BNP Paribas Open upgraded over the years and it is currently classified as a WTA 1000 event.
BNP Paribas Open is currently one of the most prestigious events on the tour and it is widely referred to as the “fifth Grand Slam”. Some of the notable former champions are Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Maria Sharapova, and Naomi Osaka.

All the seeded players in the BNP Paribas 2023 have gotten a first-round bye. The opening-round clashes will feature Sloane Stephens take on Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin. Emma Raducanu will also face off against Danka Kovinic in the opening round.
Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek leads the top half of the draw, alongside Ons Jabeur, Victoria Azarenka, Elena Rybakina, and Caroline Garcia, Bianca Andreescu, and Beatriz Haddad Maia.

BNP Paribas Open 2023 women’s draw schedule
The qualifying rounds of the BNP Paribas Open already took place from March 6-7. Following which the main-draw took place the next day on March 8. After a few days break, the quarterfinals will take place from March 15-16.
The competition will then commence with the semifinals on Saturday, March 18, alongside the doubles final. The singles final is set to take place on Sunday, March 19.
