BCCI president Sourav Ganguly confirmed IPL 2023 will be played in home and away format

Due to the global pandemic, IPL was played under closed doors and spectators were not allowed in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Last year fans were allowed to watch the IPL 2022 but only limited stadiums were allowed to host the matches. The home and away format is the classic IPL format in which all the franchises host half of the league games on thier home turf.

Ganguly also gave hints about organizing the first-ever Women’s IPL in 2023.

IPL 2023 auction will take place on December 16

BCCI has fixed the December window for the auction of IPL 2023. It won’t be a bigger auction than last time. In 2022 there were 2 new franchises were added and to make thier squad BCCI organized a mega auction so that the 2 new entrants get equal opportunity. The majority of the players were shuffled with other franchises and one of the loyal players of the respective franchises had to play for the teams.

The newcomers Lucknow super Giants and Gujrat Titans reached the playoffs after a wonderful Mega auction in 2022. The teams picked a solid squad which even resulted in Gujrat Titans lifting the title.

Teams like CSK and Punjab Kings will look to strengthen their squad in the auction

CSK found really difficult to find the right balance in their squad in IPL 2022. Their experienced players failed to deliver which resulted in eventually dropping them. They have a lot of areas to be filled in the auction 2023.

Punjab Kings on the other hand will look forward to their new coach Trevor Baylis making some new signings. Last year Punjab bought expensive players but they failed to deliver. Bayliss has a huge work to do whether he will stick with those expensive players or he will sell them.

Each Team will have a purse of at least 95 crores in the IPL 2023 auction

BCCI has increased the salary cap by 5 crores INR. The total value can be increased if a team part ways with any player from their squad for the IPL 2023. The location of the auction is not yet decided.

This time the teams will have a total purse of Rs 95 crore, an increase of Rs 5 crore from the previous edition of the auction and the teams can further swell the purse by releasing some players, and even otherwise they will have Rs 5 crore extra to juggle around.

The transfer window for players will be open till about week prior to the auction and will re-open after that and the main focus will be the future of Ravindra Jadeja after there were reports of a fallout between the all-rounder and the Chennai Super Kings. There were rumours about a possible trade off between Jadeja and Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill, but both the team have denied any such move and there were also reports of trade requests for GT’s Rahul Tewatia and R Sai Kishore but the franchise has not responded to the demand.
