Bangladesh U20 previously fought to a 1-1 draw with Nepal U20. Gurkirat Singh, a substitute, scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to separate the two sides. A deflection was made by Parthib Gogoi’s grounder, and Gurkirat’s rasper from within the box bulged the net.
Highlights:
Despite dominance and penetration that led to opportunities falling their way in both halves, the Indian colts, who had scored 8 in their previous match against Nepal U20, continued to be guilty of failing to take advantage of the opportunities they created. In the 67th minute, they even connected on the crosspiece.
However, the Indian Colts received a shock when Parthib Gogoi, the forward with the most goals scored in the competition thus far, was given the boot in the 90th minute. The 15th minute marked India’s first significant opportunity. Maheson moved past one defender, moved into the open space, and passed it to Himanshu Jangra between the defenders to frighten the opposing defence. Himanshu’s shot was initially stopped, and Parthib Gogoi’s attempt was also blocked as a result of the subsequent clearance. Even though it fell to Himanshu once again, he was unable to catch it in the middle of the chaos.
Himanshu set up Parthib, who sped down the right and into the box in the 26th minute. After the ensuing clearance, Himanshu’s stabbing shot was palmed away by the opposing goalkeeper Yoosuf Abdullah.
The Maldives had previously been content to defend in numbers, so Head Coach Shanmugam Venkatesh made two substitutions in the 31st minute alone to try to increase the number of players inside the opponent’s box: striker Gurkirat Singh replaced an injured Raj Basfore, and Vinay Harji took the place of Vibin Mohanan. Six minutes later, Gurkirat was right in the heart of things, but Yoosuf stooped low to collect the free kick.
Himanshu approached the area in the 42nd minute and evaded his defender, but Yousuf stopped his left-footed shot for a corner. Himanshu missed the easiest opportunity of the first half in the very next minute. A loose ball dropped to him all while he was clear. But he opted for power instead of hitting the mark.
In extra time, Maheson Singh, who was unopposed, had another chance to score when he grabbed onto an Amandeep cross, but he was unable to do so, and both teams went into halftime without scoring.
