India Announces 15-Man Squad For WTC Final 2021, No Spots For Shardul Thakur And Mayank Agarwal

This Tuesday, the BCCI announced India’s 15-man squad for the final match of the WTC against New Zealand, in Southampton from June 18-22.

The maiden World Test Championship started from August 1, 2019. The Kiwis qualified for the final by finishing on top of the points table, India claimed the second spot. Read on to know about the 15 Men in Blue who will square off with New Zealand this Friday.

India Squad For World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2021

Among the 15 Indian players who will go against New Zealand in the WTC Final is fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari and senior pacer Umesh Yadav. While there are not many surprises, India have left out Mayank Agarwal and Shardul Thakur. The latter was marked as the fast-bowling all-rounder. This happened after Hardik Pandya failed to make the Test squad for the England tour.

On the other hand, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mayank and Rahul are have not found spots in the trimmed 15-man squad for the World Test Championship final. Wriddhiman Saha is unlikely to make the playing XI but he finds a place in the squad as back-up wicketkeeper to Rishabh Pant.

Virat Kohli shall lead the way with Shubham Gill and Rohit Sharma as the only regular batters in the final 15. Test regulars like Cheteshwar Pujara, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin have all found a place in the squad. It also includes all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who did not play the home series against England due to an injury.

Following is India’s full 15-man squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Hanuma Vihari, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha (wicketkeeper), Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishanat Sharma, Mohammed Siraj.

India’s squad announcement comes hours after New Zealand named their final 15 for the WTC Final. Kane Williamson is also back in play and is all set to lead the team.
