Boy From Jammu and Kashmir Makes It To The Team
Umran Malik of Jammu and Kashmir was picked in the India A team for the November 23 trip to South Africa, which will be managed by Gujarat top-order batter Priyank Panchal.
The 14-member squad for the tour, which would include three four-day matches, was chosen by the BCCI’s senior selection committee. The three games will all take place in Bloemfontein.
Malik, a 21-year-old right-arm pacer, has only played one List A and eight T20 matches in his brief career. He has never participated in a red-ball game.
During the IPL in the UAE last month, the Jammu player wowed everyone with his raw pace. During Sunrisers Hyderabad’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he hit 152.95 kph, the fastest in the competition, impressing captain Virat Kohli.
Despite his poor beginnings, the child has progressed through the ranks. His father runs a modest fruit business in the Gujjar Nagar neighbourhood of Jammu. He took 3/24 against Railways on his T20 debut, including the wicket of former India player Karn Sharma, who was beaten for sheer pace.
