Margielyn Didal emerged as one of the names to watch out for in the future after her emphatic showing in the women’s street skateboarding event at the Tokyo Olympics

She might not have managed to walk away with a medal around her neck after her appearance at the Tokyo Olympics but Philippines’ Margielyn Didal certainly managed to grab the limelight.

Finishing seventh in the women’s street skateboarding event, the 22 year old skateboarder was a burst of fresh life and energy on day 3 of the marquee games. Her ravishing bonding with Brazil’s Ryassa Leal and her thumbs up of approval sign during the event saw the world stand up and take notice of Didal.

Along with it, her positive attitude and effervescent approach towards the games were massively lauded with many touting Didal for greatness in the years to come. She finished seventh in the women’s street skateboarding finals with a score of 7.52 to her name.

Speaking after the event, Didal went onto reaffirm the message she had sent prior to her appearance. Margielyn spoke about how she was besotted on representing Philippines at the games and asserted how proud she was to be a Filipino.

“This is for the country. I’m really proud to represent the Philippines,” Didal said after her finals appearance.

Skate Pilipinas president Carl Sambrano was gushing over Didal’s performance as well. In a statement given by him, he talked about how proud he was that the country had a skateboarder representing it at the games and spoke extremely highly about Didal.

“So stoked, may Olympian skateboarder po tayo, Paris 2024 we coming at you!” Sambrano said.

Apart from Didal’s showing in the event, the inaugural edition of the event also won hearts owing to the identity of the winners. All the podium finishes went to teenagers with two 13 year olds sealing gold and silver.

Japanese Nishiya Momiji took home the gold medal, while Brazil’s Rayssa Leal won the silver and 16 year old Nakayama Funa won bronze.
