Head To Head: 2-2

The last four matchups between the two ended in a 2-2 head-to-head tie. At the 2022 Italian Open, Swiatek defeated the Tunisian in straight sets recently.

Prediction

Ons Jabeur, the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up, and two-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek will compete for the 2022 US Open championship.

Swiatek’s results before the season’s final Grand Slam didn’t appear to be encouraging, but in New York, she has regained her rhythm. The World No. 1 advanced to the semifinals, where she faced Aryna Sabalenka, after wins over Jasmine Paolini, Sloane Stephens, Lauren Davis, Jule Niemeier, and Jessica Pegula.

The Belarusian scored first to take a 2-1 lead, but Swiatek immediately broke back to tie the game. Sabalenka obtained a second serve break to go up 3-2, and she didn’t throw away her advantage after that. For the final time, she broke the opponent’s serve to win the first set.

In the second set, Sabalenka’s serve was broken three times by Swiatek to win the set. In the opening half of the decisive set, where she led 2-0 and then 4-2, the Belarusian’s momentum flipped in her favour. The match was still very much in play even though World No. 1 appeared defeated. Swiatek won the following four games straight to win the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and advanced to her third Major final overall.

Meanwhile, Ons Jabeur reached the Wimbledon final a few months ago, marking a major career milestone. However, she was defeated in the title match. Her subsequent results haven’t been all that impressive. However, the 28-year-old has improved in each of his US Open matches.

Jabeur won against Madison Brengle, Elizabeth Mandlik, Shelby Rogers, Veronika Kudermetova, and Ajla Tomljanovic to earn a matchup with the hot-handed Caroline Garcia in the semifinals.

In the second set, Jabeur took an early break to go up 3-1. Despite her best efforts, Garcia was unable to break through her opponent’s serve, as the Tunisian eventually served out the match to win 6-1, 6-3. She has now advanced to her first New York final and second consecutive Grand Slam championship.

It makes sense that Swiatek and Jabeur will compete for the US Open championship since they have been the top players on the WTA tour this year. The Tunisian played at a very high level against Garcia in the semifinal. She has a great serve and didn’t encounter a single break point in the previous round.

Swiatek, on the other hand, has recently experienced several serve-related problems. In her most recent two matches, she has dropped serve a total of 11 times. The World No. 1 has made up for it, though, by coming back superbly. Both her backhand and forehand, which include tremendous topspin, are challenging to counter.

In the championship rounds, Swiatek’s performance has been quite different. She has participated in 10 finals so far, losing just one, which was her first WTA final in 2019. She hasn’t lost a set in any of her nine most recent championship games. The World No. 1 will be put to the test by Jabeur but the Pole is expected to have this one.
