The five-time champion India will face South Africa, while Pakistan will face Australia, in the semi-finals of the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup 2024.
With a convincing 119-run victory over Sri Lanka in Potchefstroom, South Africa became the first team to guarantee their spot in the final four.
India had already qualified after defeating Nepal the day before, but Pakistan, their bitterest rivals, also advanced from Group 1 following a stunning five-run victory over Bangladesh. In the final Super Six stage match of the competition, the two-time world champions successfully defended 155 runs to secure second place in the Group 1 points table.
The victory was masterfully planned by Uday Saharan and Sachin Dhas, who each scored a century, while Saumy Pandey’s four-for destroyed the opposition.
Rain interrupted the West Indies vs. Australia match, resulting in a point apiece for both sides. In the end, West Indies’ incredible competition came to an emotional close as Australia emerged victorious from Group 2, taking the final qualifying position. Despite losing their final Super Six match against the West Indies, the Australians still finished with seven points, the most of any team in Group 2.
