The 2021 ICC T20 World Cup will see a set of new rules in tournament for DRS, DLS and Super Overs, find out more about them and the change in the format
The ICC T20 World Cup is just days away from it’s commencement. The tournament is finally returning after five years as the last T20 World Cup was held back in 2016. West Indies won an action packed final against England to be crowned the champions.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is much awaited and will certainly deliver us some cracking matches as well. This years tournament has had several changes from that of the last one. The changes include introduction of DRS, a change in DLS method and also changes in super over rules. Take a look at what exactly these changes are.
ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Sees New Rules For DRS, DLS And Super Overs
DRS (Decision Review System)
DRS has been put in use in the T20 World Cup for the first time. This needs no introduction as the system has been in existence for years now. However, this will be the first time the teams in the T20 World Cup will be able to use it.
For those who are unware of DRS, this system helps the players to appeal against the Umpire’s decision and the TV umpire haves a look at it again. If the Umpire has made the wrong decision he has to overturn it.
Change in DLS method
A change in the DLS method i.e. Duckworth-Lewis method has been brought in. The DLS method is used to calculate the result of a match when it is interrupted by rain at any given point. The basic rules of the method are that both teams should have played at least five overs in a T20 game to find a conclusion.
However, this time around both teams should have played at least ten overs to calculate the result. It is worth noting that this is only for the knock-out stages and not the group stage of the tournament.
Change in Super Overs
Normally a super over is played if the teams have tied in the result. if they tie again in the super over factors like who hit the most boundaries are checked to come to a conclusion. However, this time around continuous super overs will be played to determine the winner of the game. Although a tie in super over is very difficult to happen, you can never rule out the possibility of the same.
