2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final Australia vs India winner, result, score, & top performers
Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, won the toss and chose to field. India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, made a strong start. Nevertheless, the game’s dynamics changed after Rohit Sharma exited with a score of 47, and Shreyas Iyer followed suit, getting dismissed for 4 in the next over. Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) exhibited excellent batting skills against a formidable bowling attack, securing a competitive total for India.
Despite their efforts, wickets continued to fall consistently as Australia’s bowlers seized control. The last Indian wicket fell on the final ball of the innings, with the total reaching a modest 240. Pat Cummins’ figures of 2/34 from ten overs reflected the robust performance of the Australian pacers, backed by Mitchell Starc’s 3/55 and Josh Hazlewood’s 2/60.
Australia had the challenge of pursuing a target of 241 to secure a win in the World Cup. The team experienced a rapid yet precarious start against India’s seam attack, with early losses of crucial players such as David Warner (7), Mitchell Marsh (15), and Steven Smith (4). Despite this difficult beginning, Australia reversed the situation through an impressive partnership between Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*).
Final Result: Australia won by 6-wickets against India
