“I think everyone knows that’s a lie,” Lando Norris Rubbishes Carlos Sainz Claim That He Gave Up His Position To Daniel Ricciardo At The US GP

Lando Norris was unwilling to accept the claim made by Carlos Sainz during the US Grand Prix 2021

The bygone US Grand Prix gave us a humdinger of a lap 1 battle with the McLaren duo of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz all locking heads for track positions, a battle which caused utter confusion amongst the drivers and teams.

Things started going haywire after Sainz overtook Norris around turn 12 in violation of the track limits. As the two got embroiled in a scrimmage, Norris’ counterpart, Daniel Ricciardo managed to ease past both to end up in P5.

Lando Norris Refuses To Buy Claims Made By Carlos Sainz

It required Michael Masi for Sainz to give up his position back to Norris as he intervened in lap 7. And while Sainz adhered to Masi’s call, he tried to guise the entire maneuver by claiming he had mistaken Ricciardo for Norris due to which he had given the position to the Australian.

However, Lando Norris has completely refused to by Sainz’s logic. Speaking about the claims Sainz made, Norris said they were nothing but outlandish statements with him confident that Sainz was well aware that he had been overtaken by Ricciardo but would never accept this publicly.

Everyone’s saying Carlos gave back the place to Daniel which I disagree with. I think Daniel actually overtook Carlos, but Carlos will never admit this on live TV. He would never… I think you should ask him in a live interview because he was saying he did, but I think everyone knows that’s a lie,” Lando said.

It remains to be seen if Lando’s comments will have any bearing on the rivalry between him and Sainz when both step out for the Mexico GP this weekend.
