Nick Kyrgios referenced the antics Stefano Tsitsipas had pulled off vs Andy Murray during his first round exit at the US Open 2021
Enduring his worst ever Grand Slam as he was sent packing out of the US Open 2021 in the first round itself, Nick Kyrgios was far from pleased during the tie. Already running on a short fuse, Kyrgios needed little to embark on a tirade as Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut defeated him in straight sets.
Taking too long to collect his towel in-between points, the Australian was rightly warned by the chair umpire who went onto hand him a code violation for breaching the shot clock. The punishment left Kyrgios irked with an enraged Nick heard bellowing at Carlos Bernandes how the COVID-19 norms made no sense.

As per the norms in place at the event to tackle COVID, players are required to walk to collect their own towels if they want to wipe themselves. And on being told by the chair umpire that it was part of the game, Nick went onto reference Stefano Tsitsipas’ prolonged breaks against Andy Murray.
Tsitsipas who had engaged in embarking on a string of lengthy breaks during his five set showdown with Andy Murray earlier on the day had drawn the ire of the Brit who had gone onto label the breaks as blatant cheating. It isn’t the first time though that Tsitipas has been alleged of indulging in misconduct of the manner with him previously being accused of carrying his mobile to matches to receive in-match coaching.
