The Indian couple had lost their previous two group stage matches in a row and thus finished third in group B, missing out on a place in the semi-finals.
Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy had to work hard to beat their opponents 21-19 in the first game. They lost the plot in the second game, falling 9-21 to tie the game at one game each. However, they regained their rhythm in the third and final game, winning comfortably 21-14 and clinching the match. Ponnappa-Sikki eventually prevailed in a meaningless match, 21-19, 9-21, 21-14.
