PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, lost his third and final Group A game in the women’s singles tournament at the BWF World Tour Finals in Bali on Friday.

Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand upset reigning world champion Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand 21-12, 19-21, 21-14 in a one-hour and 11-minute match at the Mangupura Hall – 1.

With this victory, the Thai player has clinched first place in Group A. Chochuwong and PV Sindhu have already qualified for the knockouts. 

Before this, she had a straight-game triumph over Germany’s Yvonne Li in her second group A match in Bali on Thursday, India’s P. V. Sindhu advanced to the elimination stage of the BWF World Tour Finals.

Sindhu, who was a semifinal the year before and was the lone Indian to win the prestigious title in 2018, outplayed World No. 23 Li 21-10, 21-13 in 31 minutes.

In her last group encounter, the defending world champion will face Thailand’s top seed Pornpawee Chochuwong. This will be her one true chance of redemption against the two previous falls she has had.
