For the unfamiliar, Michail Antonio, suffered a harrowing ordeal after his Ferrari veered off the road and collided with a tree in a serious crash on Saturday afternoon during awful weather, rain, wind and very slippery on the road and looked like his car had spun out of control with another vehicle not involved.
The incident that took place in Theydon Bois, Essex, left Antonio trapped in the wrecked vehicle for nearly an hour before emergency services managed to free him and airlift him to a central London hospital.
At the time of writing this article, the forward is reported to be in stable condition, “conscious and communicating.” The tragic accident took place at 12.50 p.m. on Coppice Row near Epping Forest. Antonio who is alive has had surgery on a lower limb fracture he suffered during the accident in a central London hospital.
Onlookers reported grey smoke pouring from the car which crashed in Theydon Bois, Essex, close to the home of West Ham owner David Sullivan.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service revealed: “Crews were called at 1.02pm. Firefighters reported that a man was trapped in his car and worked to release him by 1.45pm.
What Did the Essex Police Say?
As per the counts given by Essex authorities, who responded to the scene, confirmed the crash involved a single vehicle. The viral images revealed the extent of the damage to Antonio’s Ferrari FF, a luxury car valued at £260,000 with a top speed of 208mph.
The Ferrari FF was the fastest four-seat car in the world when released in 2011 and it can reach 208mph and go from 0 to 62mph in 3.7 seconds.
As per the police officials, the right wing of the vehicle was torn off, the door of the car was missing and the windscreen was shattered. Rescue crews worked until 1:45 PM to extract Antonio from the mangled car.
What Did the Eyewitnesses Say?
An eyewitness described the weather as treacherous, with heavy rain and slippery roads possibly contributing to the accident. The eyewitness was heard saying, “It didn’t seem like another vehicle was involved. It looked like the car had spun out of control.”
The authorities of Essex issued a call for witnesses and dashcam footage to aid their investigation, urging anyone with information. Let us remind you, it’s not Michail Antonio’s first road accident. Previously, in 2019, he famously crashed a Lamborghini while dressed as a snowman on Christmas Day.
